メッセージ

低中所得国での妊娠、出産を安全にすること、また産む女性、生まれてくる子ども、そして家族にとってより良いものにしていくことを研究課題としています。 妊娠と出産は生理学的な事象ですが、時に合併症を伴います。よって正常から異常までの広い範囲に対応することが必要です。この対応は、単に医学的なものだけではなく、次世代へ生をつなげようとする人々への、そして社会への関わりであり、そこに携わるひとりひとりの姿勢とありようが問われるものです。 公衆衛生に関わるということは、すなわちクリアカットには割り切れない「社会的存在」としての人間の課題に取り組むことであり、この点にこの学問のおもしろさがあるのです。

研究テーマ

• 低中所得国における死産と新生児死亡削減のための疫学研究および臨床研究
• 子どもの慢性低栄養の要因解明に関する疫学研究
• Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS)を用いた母子保健、リプロダクティヴ・ヘルス領域の２次データ解析 現在の主なフィールドはアジア（カンボジア、ラオス）
